The Word is Out!

If you haven't heard by now, Dallin and I are expecting our first baby! It's due date is December 6th and we'll find out the gender sometime in July! We are so excited to be welcoming a little baby into the family. This is something I have waited for so so long.

The day we found out was so unexpected. I had taken so many pregnancy tests before and they had all been negative. It seemed impossible that one might be positive. I was very doubtful that I was even pregnant. I had a little feeling that I might be but I didn't dwell on it too much for fear that I might be wrong... again. I had a few symptoms but of course I had had "symptoms" before and they obviously hadn't meant anything. I decided not to tell Dallin that I was taking a test that morning and waited until he had left to work before pulling out the tests.

I was hopeful but also expecting a negative test like I'd seen so many times before. After waiting for the test to settle a couple minutes I went to the bathroom counter and picked up a very positive pregnancy test! I froze, completely in shock. I felt like the wind and been knocked out of me. There were two very dark lines. Two! I had no idea how to react. It took a few minutes to even process that it was really happening. I was pregnant! Excitement and gratitude overwhelmed me and I stood there for the next few minutes laugh crying and repeating the words "oh my gosh" about one hundred times. Eventually I pulled myself together and decided to take another test, a digital one, just to be sure. Sure enough, I soon saw the word "pregnant" on the digital test. I have read that test over and over again until it really sunk in.

Excitement to tell Dallin quickly consumed me and I began brainstorming how I would tell him. I decided on a simple little card that I set on the kitchen table next to my pregnancy test. Lucky for me Dallin got off early that day and I only had to wait a couple hours for him to return home. I sat at the kitchen table waiting anxiously for him to finish cleaning up. I knew he would be surprised. We had talked about just last night how I probably had not become pregnant again this month. Finally he came down the hall and into the dinning room. My heart was pounding with excitement. It took him a moment to notice the card and test, but as soon as he did his jaw dropped and his eyes widened. He was so excited. Neither of us could believe that it was finally happening. We spent the rest of the day looking up information about how big the baby was at 4 weeks and downloading apps on my phone about pregnancy. Back then, the baby was only the size of a tiny poppyseed.

That day was so surreal. In fact, the past couple months have been so surreal. I'll go into more detail about the first trimester in another post but we could not be more excited- and nervous- to start this new adventure!

HOUSE UPDATES

APRIL 4, 2017

We’ve been making a lot of progress on our house recently! We finished two big projects and got a few decorations to liven up the space. It’s been so fun to decorate and make this house our home. A couple weeks ago or so we finished our kitchen table. That was a long project that I am so glad is done, but it turned out beautiful. I think the fact that Dallin and I built it with our own two hands makes me especially fond of it.

It all started with a pinterest pin… as do all my projects! I’m sure by now Dallin is cursing pintrest however, he enjoys the end result just as much as I do! I was getting really tired of using my craft table in the dinning room and I really liked the Farmhouse look for kitchen tables. However buying one was way out of the budget! So we decided we would attempt to build one. We bought all our wood at lowes as well as a few tools and headed home with great intentions to start building the next day… but the wood sat there for a really long time. Finally we worked up the courage to begin. It still took us a long time, there were a lot of cuts to make and a lot of screws to drill. Sanding and staining were definitely time consuming but it was SO WORTH IT.

We still need to buy some chairs for the one side of the table but I plan on getting the popular white metal cafe dining chairs! Here are some before and after pictures of the space as well as some pictures of the process! Yes, we built it inside the house in one of our spare bedrooms. Never again.

 


















We also painted! I am loving the new paint color. The grey wasn’t bad but it definitely had a cooler feel to it and this light beige gives the house a warmer tone. I did so much research on paint colors and was finally able to find a beige that doesn’t look yellow! It’s perfect.





We picked up our paint at Lowes on Wednesday and my lovely mother came the next day to help me paint. We worked for two days and were able to get SO MUCH done! WE got everything done except for one room and that is only because we ran out of paint! Two of my younger brothers, Ethan and Gabe, also came and helped out with the painting project. It was fun to have family over and I’m so thankful they came. It would have been a 3 week process of I would’ve done it by myself but we were able to get so much done because my mom came. Aren’t mothers the best? Here’s a few pictures of the process and some after pictures as well. Obviously the outlets still need their covers in these photos but I was too excited to take some pictures of the finished product!









I am so thankful for this house that we’ve been blessed with to use and that I’m able to tweak things to make it our own. It’s feeling more and more like home every day.

MARCH LIFE UPDATE

MARCH 9, 2017

How is it already March? March 9th at that! Time seems so slow in the moment but the weeks are just whizzing by!We honestly haven’t had a whole lot going on so things have been pretty quiet here on the blog. I hope this month to post a little more and keep things current.

I thought for sure that I’d have our house decorated by now… that was sooo unrealistic. This is going to be a very long process, especially since I insist on building almost every piece of furniture we need. Speaking of building we are FINALLY making progress on the kitchen table. We bought the wood ages ago and have been working on it slowly bit by bit. All that’s left to do is sand and stain, which doesn’t sound like much but actually is very time consuming. This table better be worth it at the end of all this. We will definitely be taking a break from the big building projects like this one once we are done. Maybe we will tackle some simple floating shelves next! My next big project though will be painting the walls of the house. All OF THEM. I’m insane and feel sorry for my husband. But hey, when I’m done it’s going to look amazing. (At least I hope so… keeping my fingers crossed.)

Although our house is far from complete it is really starting to feel like home. Sometimes it just takes some living in it to get used to things. We really like it (: We also really enjoy where we are! Dietrich has been awesome so far and we are getting more and more settled into our ward. We both have callings (that didn’t take long) but I am so excited about mine because I get to be Girls Camp Assistant Director. I LOVE girls camp so I am thrilled that I get to go and be a part of such an incredible experience

FEBRUARY 9, 2017

1. I have never pierced my ears
2. My middle name is Rose, after all the roses people brought my mom when I was born.
3. I binge watch Grey’s Anatomy far too often.
4. I enjoy cleaning the house.
5. I’ve recently discovered a love for decorating, even though I know nothing about it.
6. I have never broken a bone…. Knock on wood.
7. I absolutely LOVE cold cereal.
8. I struggle with anxiety.
9. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about cooking or baking. I never wanted to learn when I was     growing up so now I call my mom every time I need to make something.
10. I am probably the pickiest eater you will ever meet. I wish I wasn’t but I always have been and           probably always will be.
11. I love writing and have started a few different books.
12. Chili is one of my favorites but only canned chili.
13. I feel everything through my stomach. Nervous? Stomachache. Excited? Stomachache. Scared?           Stomachache. Worried? Stomachache. Overwhelmed? Stomachache.
14. I am a super fast reader. I read the last hunger games book in one day.
15. I can’t fall asleep if I’m warm. I have to be chilled with covers and one foot sticking out. Its an issue when Dallin insists that he’s freezing and I have the fan going in December.

HELLO 2017

JANUARY 21, 2017

There is something about a new year that feels very refreshing. It’s not like much has changed. It’s still cold. There are still dishes in the sink. I still need to make the bed. But the energy that the new year brings is exciting. We have 365 days of endless opportunities just waiting for us. It’s a blank slate waiting to be filled.

I’m ready to fill each month with beautiful memories. I’m ready to take on each day with a beautiful new perspective. I’m ready to live this year to it’s fullest potential. I think its very beneficial to prioritize once in a while and reevaluate our lives to find out what we want to change or add to our lives. I made a small list of broad resolutions that I want to focus on this year. Each of these have smaller more specific steps and goals that will help me accomplish them.

BE PRESENT.
GET TO KNOW GOD BETTER.

WELCOME TO OUR DAYBOOK

Hello and welcome to our blog! I am so glad that you’re here and very excited to be starting this blog. I’ve been blogging for a couple years already on another more private blog but decided to change it up and come on over here! I’ve actually been writing posts for this blog for a while but since we just recently moved we haven’t had internet until this past week! So now I’m finally getting around to launching this blog.

This blog is something that I wanted to use to record our lives. In some ways it will be like a journal which is why I named it The Darrington Daybook. Daybook is pretty much another word for journal and this blog is going to be all about us. I found the name very fitting!

This is going to be a space that I share our day to day life, sweet family memories, our triumphs and failures and my random rambling thoughts. I’m excited to share our life here for you readers and as a record for our family. Thank you for being here and coming along on our journey!
